final episode 18
“Ready to go home?”
Vera gave me a smile. “I’m ready,” she told me. I gave her a smile and helped to onto a wheelchair. It was a long four months in the hospital. Her doctors gave her the thumbs up to be discharged from the hospital.
Her recovery was going very well. Dr. Bach believed that she would be able to start rehabilitation next month in order to rebuild her muscle in her right arm and leg. Her ribs still needed time to heal. It was best for Vera to continue her recovery at home. As for her name, after a few days, she told me to call her by her nickname.
I walked up to her bed and got ready to lift her. “Ready?” I asked her. “Yes,” she said to me. I wrapped an arm around her waist and under her legs. She was pretty light but, the casts added a some weight. I placed her in the wheelchair.
Knock…knock….
We turned our head to the door to see Lorenzo. “Lorenzo? What are you doing here?” I asked him. I expected him to be at the office. “Your father gave me permission to be with you and your wife until you return,” he told me. I gave him a smile. “Great,” I told him.
Lorenzo stood behind the wheelchair to get ready to push. I nudged him away. “I will do it,” I told him. “Yes sir,” he said with a smile. Lorenzo walked over to the door and opened it for me. “Thank you,” Vera told him.
“Your welcome Mrs. Minetti,” he told her. We walked down the hallway and into the elevator. “Should I drive the car to the entrance sir?” Lorenzo asked me. “That would be a good idea,” I told him. “I’ll walk ahead then sir,” he told me.
Once the elevator reached the lobby, Lorenzo walked ahead of us. Once outside, I looked up to see the sun shining brightly. It’s a great day . “The weather is nice to us today,” Vera told me. “It is. Isn’t it,” I said to her.
I turned my head to see the car coming. Once it was parked in front of us, I opened the back door and lifted Vera. “Watch your head,” I told her. I placed her in the car. “I’ll put the wheelchair back sir,” Lorenzo said and pushed the wheelchair away. I closed the door and walked around to the other side.
I got inside myself and put my seatbelt on. “What is our home like?” she asked me. I gave her a smile. “You’ll see. It’s a surprise,” I told her. She gave me a nod and looked out of the window. Lorenzo returned to the car and drove us home.

“We’re home.”
The doors opened to reveal our home. It was the same as if I brought Vera here the first time. As I pushed her wheelchair, Vera looked around the house curiously. “You remember our home?” I asked her.
She looked up at me and shook her head. I felt sad and a relief that she didn’t remember our life here. I pushed her towards the window that was covered by the curtains. “Hold on for a minute,” I told her and walked over to the curtain controls.
I pressed the button that opened the curtains. In front of her, the city was revealed. As the curtains opened, her eyes widen in amazement. A smile grew on my face. “Wow.” She looked from one side of the city to the next.
I walked up to her side and wrapped my arms around her shoulders. “You like it?” I asked her. “I love it,” I heard her say. “You think that you will like it here?” She looked up at me and gave me a smile. “I think…I’m going to love it here,” she told me.
I gave her a smile and leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Once you get better, I’m going to show you everywhere,” I said my intentions. She gave me a nod and looked back at the window. I watched her closely.
Maybe this is a sign. God has given me a second chance to do things right with her.
“What are you looking at?”
I came out of my thoughts and saw Vera looking up at me. My smile grew wider. “I’m looking at my beautiful wife,” I said to her. She blushed from my words. So innocent . I caressed her cheeks and bent down close to her.
“I love you,” I told her. She looked up at me with a beautiful smile. “I love you too,” she told me. With that, I kissed her. I made a vow with that kiss.
My love for you will be everlasting love.
